Bread Pakoda

These pakoda's/ fritters used to be tea time attraction for us when we were kids :) Recently when I visited one of my relatives (unannounced) this was one of the many items she made in a jiffy. Dipped in gram flour batter, the tricolor bread sandwich is basically an amazing yummy street food number.

You can make plain tricolor sandwiches or choose to deep fry them...Either ways they are simply good food to munch on :)

1/2 cup Water (use as required)
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/2 tsp Chili powder
Salt, to taste

For the Tricolor sandwich
Few Bread slices, with the sides cut
3 Tbsp Tomato ketchup
4 Tbsp Green chutney

Oil, for frying

Method:
  • On a slice of bread, spread a spoonful of green chutney evenly over it.
  • Now place another slice of bread, and spread a spoon of tomato ketchup evenly over it.
  • Place another slice of bread on top of it and press lightly to get the tricolor sandwich. You can cut it diagonally to get two triangles.
  • Repeat the same with the remaining ingredients.
  • Prepare the batter by combining the gram flour, turmeric powder, chili powder, salt and water until it is lump free.
  • Dip each sandwich in the batter till it is evenly coated on all sides.
  • Now slide it into hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown and crisp on all sides. Let it drain on paper towel.
  • While serving, cut it diagonally and serve with your favorite dip!
